Originally called Ponde Fielde, owing to its’ abundance of waterways and ponds. Located to the North of the Mystic River, the city was also referred to as Mystic Side for some time as well. Throughout its’ history, the city has at times been a part of both Charlestown and Malden. In fact, before it first became a town in and of itself, it was known as North Malden. The town officially incorporated in 1850, and became a city fifty years later.

The neighborhoods of Melrose offer a pleasant suburban environment rich with natural features to explore as well as a thriving local economy. Named for Melrose, Scotland due to its’ ponds and hills bearing a strong resemblance, the city of Melrose is home to Red Sox announcer Don Orsillo, among other local celebrities.

Melrose is ideally situated for commuting from North of the city of Boston. Near the apex of routes 95/128, 1, and 93, a convenient ride to any Boston destination as well as all North Shore points is only minutes away.
